eLearning Series: Engaging with Multilingual Families about Kindergarten

At fka Children’s Services (fkaCS), our vision is for all children to actively participate in quality education and care services that recognise, value, and embed difference and diversity.

Our three-module series offers practical strategies to support multilingual families during enrolment and orientation, enhancing family engagement and communication. Each module takes about 15 minutes to complete.

The Department of Education’s guide, Engaging with Multilingual Families, is available now. Together, these resources help strengthen your relational pedagogy, supporting children’s sense of belonging and encouraging active family participation in their learning.

Module 1: Enrolment

This module focuses on engaging with multilingual families during enrolment, which is an opportunity to create strong relationships with a child and their family. By completing this module, you'll learn to recognise and overcome barriers to active participation, collaborate with local communities and networks to support multilingual families, and ensure a welcoming first impression for all families.

This module explores ideas and ways to purposefully engage with families during orientation. Completing this module will equip you to maintain a welcoming environment, identify the necessary resources to support orientation, and effectively plan for a child and their family's first day.

Completing this module will help you identify your language and communication support needs and use online resources to support ongoing family engagement.
