fkaCS eNews | Term 1 2022

Welcome to the first fkaCS Members eNewsletter for 2022.

It is no secret that when early childhood and care settings make a concerted effort to foster healthy, strong relationships with families, children benefit in a number of ways. Term 1 often signifies the start of that relationship during the settling in period for families.

However, term 1 of 2022 has again set us up with challenges for fostering those connections and engaging families, with limited access to facilities for orientation and the drop-at-the-door scenarios. On top of this, many services have been involved in the roll out of two years of funded kindergarten, providing a need to think of new ways to engage families of younger children.

As we approach the end of term, it is a good time to think about how these access limitations and the introduction of an extra year of kindergarten have affected our relationships with families, particularly those families that require language support. What benefits and challenges did this present to you and your team? What did this teach you and what you can take into your future practice? Looking back at our practice allows us to adjust and challenge our assumptions.

fka Children’s Services is really excited to introduce our Reflective Practice Toolkits in this issue; a great way to support your team on their journey this year. We look at multi-age grouping and differentiated teaching practices, and share some great member benefits from our partners Yarn String Sista and Global Language Books. Our Multicultural Resource Centre is back open for borrowing from Tuesday to Friday. We look forward to seeing you soon.
